BECOMING A MYSTERY CUSTOMER
Earn Extra Income; Receive Extra Perks!
A mystery customer is a person who reviews (or “performs”) various assigned businesses and report
their findings back to the mystery shopping service provider. The reviewer is sent a set of guidelines or things
to look for during their visit to the business. Mystery Customers do not need any specialized knowledge,
though they are expected to be punctual with their reports, have an eye for detail and be able to write
well enough to express their findings. Many survey systems are now Internet-based, so Internet
access is required.
Quinn Marketing and Communications (QMC) is one of those mystery customer service providers. We
work with a wide variety of industries throughout the nation that hire us to evaluate their various levels
of product quality, customer service, cleanliness levels, etc. In order to give its clients the best service
and widest coverage possible, QMC is always adding new mystery customers to its list of contacts.
Mystery shopping is not full- or part-time work but rather something you do during your normal
day-to-day activities as a consumer. In most cases it is as simple as going to dinner or a movie
perhaps even shopping a specific retail store. Then you answer a set of detailed questions and
give a description as to what happened while you were reviewing the location. There are times
when you will be required to do more detailed tasks such as visiting a bank and inquiring about
a loan or visiting an auto dealer and feigning interest in buying a vehicle. You might also be asked
to go to a casino with a sum of money and a list of very specific instructions.
QMC provides services for a wide range of businesses including:
- Restaurants and bars
- Retail stores
- Car dealers
- Banks
- Pizza and fast food restaurants
- Health Care Clinics and Hospitals
- Grocery stores
- Convenience stores
- Sports and specialty stores
- Spas and salons
- Government agencies

The biggest draw to the profession is the perks. Most QMC mystery customers are reimbursed
for their expenses up to a certain amount and then given a small fee for performing the shop –
shops that you may have visited anyway in the course of your day. Sometimes the product itself
is the fee for doing the shop. Mystery Customer reimbursements vary by business and can
range anywhere from $5 to $1,500 or more in goods and/or services. Generally speaking, the
more complex and time-consuming a review, the bigger your reimbursement will be. The
complex reviews usually go to more experienced mystery customers and sometimes require
extra training depending on the shop. We will always tell you what your fee and reimbursement
will be for the shop prior to scheduling it with you.
The best part of mystery shopping is that you are your own boss, not an employee of QMC.
You are a private contractor, hiring out your services to QMC for the agreed upon fee and
reimbursement that each particular site offers. This also means that you need to track your
own fees for your own income tax purposes.
Important Note: There are several companies on the Internet who charge
membership fees to become a mystery customer. Beware of these companies. There is never a
fee to become a mystery customer with most reputable marketing agencies like QMC.
